On Saturday and Sunday, May 31 and June 1, 2008, SCUBA divers from Seattle to San Diego will converge on Monterey, California to compete for top prizes in one of the most unique underwater photo competitions in the United States. This is a one-day competition open to all underwater photographers of all experience levels. All photos (digital or film), must be taken from beach dives along the Monterey coastline on Saturday, May 31. A panel of judges, comprised of professional photographers, will select the winners on Sunday, June 1, with the winners being announced and prizes awarded on Sunday afternoon.

The entry fee includes film and processing for film photographers, catered Saturday evening dinner and featured presentation, t-shirt, Sunday educational seminar, and an opportunity to win a door prize at the awards show on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Approximately $20,000 in prizes will be available as awards, including gear and trips to exotic dive destinations.

RULES AND REGULATIONS - ENTRY FORM
REGISTRATION: This is a one-day competition. Entrants must register between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning May 31 at Aquarius Dive Shop, 2040 Del Monte Blvd, Monterey. Each participant will receive a participant number. Film will be distributed and digital media registered at that time.
Pre-registration entry fees are $75 if postmarked on
or before May 16, 2008. Thereafter, entry fees are $90. The entry
fee includes 2 rolls of film & processing for film entrants, participants
admission to Saturday evening dinner and show, t-shirt, Sunday educational
seminar, and an opportunity to participate in the door prize at the
awards show on Sunday. Only registered participants will be eligible
for the door prize.
Entry fees are nonrefundable. Mail entry fees (no credit cards please)
and Registration Form to: Northern California Underwater Photographic
Society, PO Box 1168, Alameda, CA 94501.
CATEGORIES:
FILM: There will be one category of participants in which any film
photographer may participate.
NOVICE DIGITAL: Photographers who have won three or fewer first or
second place awards in three separate photographic competitions other
than those limited to the members of one photographic club and/or
who have earned less than $200 from photography.
OPEN DIGITAL: Anyone may participate in the Open Category regardless
of experience.
SUBJECTS:
Awards will be given in each category for the following subjects.
Both digital and film entries will be accepted in each subject but
will be judged separately.
MACRO: 4.25 x 2.83 (1:3 on 35 mm film) or smaller.
PORTRAIT: Any portrait of any subject greater than 4.25 x 2.83.
NORMAL/WIDE-ANGLE: Imaged area bigger than macro. Any lens may be
used. Judges may give added weight to wide-angle images.
All categories of film and digital images will be judged
together for one set of first through third place awards in the following
subjects:
HUMOROUS: Humorous shots, with or without props, shot underwater.
Make them funny! There will be a separate prize list for this subject.
ABOVE-WATER: Dive-related photos taken above water. Shots must contain
divers or dive gear. Shots without divers or dive gear will not be
judged. There will be a separate prize list for this subject. Awards
in this category will be used to break ties among those who have won
points toward prize selection.
